This 1979 Leyland Mini Moke started out life as a RHD Australian Moke with an 998cc engine. It was purchased by the current owner and completely revamped with a 1275 SPI / Auto powertrain out of a JDM late model Mini, along with ECU and subframe. It was then brought to the Virgin Islands where it was regularly used as transportation around the island and beaches until it was sent all the way to us for an automatic gearbox rebuild and some other work. Instead of heading home, the owner has decided it is time to sell.
The exterior of this Moke is straight and has no rust, featuring a heavy duty black powdercoated bull bar and skid plate, along with powdercoated handles on the sides. The main shell is finished in a blue rock guard coating for maximum outside durability. Where standard paint scratches and fades, this will take whatever abuse is thrown at it and power wash up nicely. The cabin has some bucket seals fitted, which although easy to wash may be replaced with something more comfortable if you desire, but if you plan to go to the beach often, they may be best to keep. Protecting you is a bolt in cage complete with blue top, which can be removed if you wish to go topless. Aftermarket LED lamps are found throughout, along with an aftermarket one piece gauge pod to replace the original smiths type that features a GPS speedometer, temperature gauge, and fuel gauge with low indicator.
This isn't your typical small bore Moke, with the 1275 powertrain with 4 speed automatic gearbox this can easily achieve freeway speeds. The engine starts right up regardless of weather thanks to the SPI injection, and the gearbox has just been completely rebuilt by us here at Wild Child with all new bands, friction plates, seals, gaskets, and even a new gear train assembly. All mountings have been replaced, and most of the suspension is new. The steering rack was also replaced along with front wheel bearings. We also just serviced it, including new fluids, spark plugs, and chassis grease. The only thing we will mention is that if you do plan to take this at high speeds, you may want to upgrade the brakes, as this Moke is equipped with standard 7.5" brakes, which does mean 10" wheels will fit if you would like.
So, if in the market for a Moke but don't want to deal with slow small bores or a manual gearbox, and don't want to be caught dead in one of those electric imposers- this may be your one shot such a well equipped Moke!
